Audio Sorcery was established in
1999 by Paul Midcalf.
He wanted to provide a service which was unique to the area by
offering a one stop shop for all recording, production, mixing,
editing and mastering needs.
Although the main studio medium is digital, allowing full recall
of all mix settings and multi track recordings at the touch of a
button, he still uses analogue outboard gear, such as the mono valve
processor and large diaphragm valve microphone to capture the all
important takes. From micing drum kits to editing vocal takes and
mastering to CD he is always keen to get the best from any musician,
singer (and drummer!), while listening to their express needs and
wants for any particular track, groove or sound. The digital equipment
makes the whole process quicker. No "waiting for the tape to
rewind" or "just putting another reel on". Far less
noise too, unless of course you want that sort of thing!
More about Paul
After leaving school back in 1984, Paul took to computer programming
on the old Z80 driven Amstrad CPC464 home computer. What a nerd!
He published thirteen titles including "Classic Invaders",
"Tombstowne" (co-written with Simon A Jones) and "The
Fifth Quadrant", most of which can still be found on the internet
and can be played with an emulator. When game machines finally took
hold Paul diversified into corporate design and typesetting. During
this time his fascination for electronic keyboards, drum machines
and four track tape recorders grew stronger. In 1991 picked up his
first pair of drum sticks and started gigging with some local, dare
he say, pub bands. His first was at the Tonbridge Rugby Club with
"Deep Joy". As his "nerd" tag slowly wore off
he played with other bands including "The
Varlies", "The Tidy Chaps", "The Gringos",
"Mr Hitler's Holiday"and "The Beex". He even
stepped in on the odd occasion for "The Tom Palmer Band"
and "Christophers Trousers", and touring with the likes
of "The Commitments".
